System VP Behavioral Services, Health First
John Eiler is the System Vice President for Behavioral Services with Health First on the Space Coast of Florida, with behavioral wellness responsibilities across an integrated delivery network of four hospitals, a large multi-specialty medical group and a health insurance plan operating across Central Florida. John’s initial two years at Health First have focused on expanding access to behavioral healthcare, integrating counseling and psychiatry into primary care practices with over 75 providers. This Collaborative Care project combines onsite and virtual services, including innovative outreach technologies.
John previously led the Psychiatric Support Center (PSC) for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in affiliation with the Dept. of Psychiatry at the Washington University School of Medicine. He founded the PSC in 2011 as a freestanding psychiatric hospital operated as a public/private partnership among SSM Health Care, BJC Healthcare and the Missouri Dept. of Mental Health. Prior to leading the PSC startup John served for eight years as the Executive Vice President of Operations for Behavioral Health and Senior Services for SSM Health Care – St. Louis. John has long been a proponent of technology in human services, and earlier in his career created an adaptive technology laboratory to support persons with disabilities.
John served on the American Hospital Association’s Section for Psychiatric & Substance Abuse Services and is a past chair of the Behavioral Health Network of Greater St. Louis and past member of the Board of Trustees at the National Association of Behavioral Healthcare. He trained in clinical psychology and neurosciences at Washington University, University of Southern California and the University of Washington Medical School. John has over 40 publications and presentations in neuropsychology, aging, engineering and assistive technology, including a multi-year NSF grant for bioengineering research to aid the disabled.
