Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, Centene Corporation
Dr. Vincent Nelson is Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs for Centene Corporation, a diversified, multinational Fortune 50 company committed to its mission of transforming the health of the community, one person at a time.
In his role on the Medical Strategy team, Dr. Nelson strategically plans and develops corporate and health plan medical management functions with special focus on clinical policy and associated utilization management initiatives, corporate clinical quality strategy and improvement processes, health economics, and pharmacy.
Dr. Nelson recently served as a Vice President, Medical Affairs & Interim Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). In that role, Dr. Nelson had oversight of 100 million members across the US and internationally. He led the strategic direction and operational execution of 36 different BCBS plans as well as all programs offered across the BCBS association. He was responsible for the execution of BCBSA’s integrated clinical quality strategy including medical policy, value-based provider payment programs, delivery system transformation, innovative population health management, and consumer engagement partnering closely with BCBS Chief Medical Directors to drive change within the organization.
Dr. Nelson was a founding physician partner and board member of United States Anesthesia Partners (USAP). He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University and a medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his Clinical Residency and Fellowship training at Harvard Medical School. He also has a master’s degree in business administration from Rice University.
