Dr. Shawn Hersevoort
National Medical Director, Foresight Mental Health
Shawn Hersevoort, M.D., MPH, joined Foresight in March 2022 as National Medical Director. To this role he brings a depth of experience as a practicing psychiatrist, academic leader, clinical director and consultant. He has broad experience working in all sectors of medicine including private, public and academic. For the past 10 years, he's focused primarily on the development of integrated and collaborative care programs that support primary care providers. Dr. Hersevoort received undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and clinical psychology from the University of California, Davis and California State University, Sacramento. He received his medical doctor and master's in public health degrees from Tulane University, and completed his psychiatry residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.Throughout the past 15 years, he's taught several hundred courses, chaired a dozen large conferences, started several integrated care programs as well as a nurse practitioner program, and published a half-dozen posters, chapters and books. He's a founding member of the award-winning Train New Trainers Primary Care Psychiatry Fellowship and author of the 4.5-star Primary Care Psychiatry Handbook. He serves as the president of Primary Care Psychiatry Solutions and on the advisory board for MediGuru. Dr. Hersevoort joined Foresight in order to help develop a truly cohesive team-based care approach "a team of teams” including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and therapists, as well as social and behavioral health support services. His career is driven by his passion to help people become the best version of themselves. He believes the systematic reduction of human suffering ”both mental and physical”is the best way to build a society that's better, kinder, stronger, more creative and diverse.A native Californian, Dr. Hersevoort enjoys cycling, music, movies and time with his family. He lives in Sacramento with his wife, also a psychiatrist, his three daughters and their many beloved pets.
