Anika Nayak

Freelance Health and Wellness Journalist

Who or what is your inspiration?

My inspiration stems from the older generations of women in my family who have broken barriers to not only get to where they are today, but also get me to where I am today. From my great-grandmother to even my own mother, they all have disrupted conventional norms in their lifetimes to progress society. I hope to carry forth their energy and create change for future generations.

One thing you would like to see changed in mental or behavioral health care?

I would like to see mental health care be delivered in a culturally sensitive way to uplift communities of color and meet them where they are. I hope more care services can be tailored to meet historically disenfranchised communities where they are to instill greater trust and eradicate the stigma around mental health.

What is your superpower?

My superpower lies in empowering others by helping them realize their inner capabilities to reach their greatest potential. I have helped my peers and community members find solutions to pressing problems, which in turn has motivated me to build stronger communities and foster inspiring connectivity.
